Professional Services Provided

Since 1983, Oldwick Associates in Psychotherapy has been providing quality evaluations and therapy for children, adolescents and adults.

Children

OAP offers treatment and evaluation for behavior problems and school problems, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, childhood anxiety and depression, coping with divorce or the death of a family member.  We believe that a child cannot receive proper treatment without the active involvement of the parent or caretaker.

Adolescents

Adolescence is a turbulent time.  It is a time of increasing attachment to a peer group and this shift can bring its own issues.  Substance abuse, depression, school problems and family turmoil are all too common for adolescents.  Counseling with an objective professional allows an open discussion of family issues which may otherwise be impossible.  OAP offers individual and family counseling.

Adults

Adulthood brings it own challenges.  It is a time when life decisions are made about marriage, career and children.  Adults confront conflicts from their childhood and in their family relationships.  We learned to be parents and spouses, employers and employees, from watching how our parents coped.  Much of what we learned is implicit, unstated and unexamined.  Psychotherapy offers the chance to look at our beliefs and experience in a safe, caring atmosphere.  OAP offers individual, couples and family therapies to address such difficulties as reactions to stress and loss, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, health and problems in relationships.

Geriatrics

Our gero-psychologist works with and assesses the changes that the elderly face.  These challenges include coping with loss, medical illness, decline in physical and emotional functioning and illness of a partner. The psychologist might assist in difficult decisions about entering assisted living facilities.  She regularly works with clients on site in long term care.

Evaluations

A Chinese proverb says, "The beginning of wisdom is calling a thing by its name."  An evaluation clarifies the nature of the problem, and yields valuable information about the individuals strengths and difficulties, leading to clear treatment goals.  OAP offers psychological, intellectual and learning evaluations for all ages, to diagnose such problems as underachievement, attentional problems, learning difficulties and a range of emotional difficulties.   We also offer child custody/family evaluations for family court proceedings.
